Model of Industry-Academia Collaboration: Feng Chia University and Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. Sign Industry-Academia Alliance to Establish Advanced Energy and Thermal Management Laboratory

The semiconductor industry has been one of the most prominent industries in Taiwan in recent years. With the issue of net-zero carbon emissions, the high-energy consumption semiconductor manufacturing process is a challenge that the industry urgently needs to address. To continuously cultivate engineering and research talents with practical experience and capabilities, and to develop energy-saving equipment for high-energy consumption, Feng Chia University and Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. signed an industry-academia alliance memorandum of cooperation on May 8 at Feng Chia University, represented by President Wei Wang and General Manager You-Wen Liang. Through the donation of instruments and equipment, they demonstrated their long-term cooperation idea of jointly establishing the "Advanced Energy and Thermal Management Laboratory."

At the beginning of the meeting, President Wei Wang first stated that Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. is a company that continuously innovates and develops. In recent years, it has transformed into a semiconductor equipment supplier and won the TSMC Excellent Supplier Award for Outstanding Performance in 2023. Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. focuses on light and heat as its core, developing applications for pressing, laminating, peeling, and baking. Starting from industrial ovens, it will celebrate its 60th anniversary this September and is a key equipment supplier for the printed circuit board, panel, and semiconductor industries. In the pursuit of excellence, Feng Chia University has always been a partner working hand in hand with Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. Since 2006, the two parties have engaged in long-term industry-academia cooperation, accumulating fruitful results, including Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. providing millions of dollars in scholarships and internship resources, benefiting Feng Chia students, and organizing over 500 company visits. Additionally, more than 20 Feng Chia elites have become employees of Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. after graduation, with up to 10% of senior managers being Feng Chia alumni. Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. joined the Feng Chia International Industry-Academia Alliance in 2020 and moved into the Feng Chia University i-Hub in 2021, jointly establishing a digital development base. This signing of the industry-academia alliance cooperation and the establishment of the laboratory and donation of equipment further enhance the industry-academia linkage and interaction between the two parties, serving as the best model of industry-academia cooperation.

General Manager You-Wen Liang of Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. also stated that Feng Chia University is a pragmatic and warm school. He hopes to jointly establish the Advanced Energy and Thermal Management Laboratory through the concept of "achieving greatness through others' success." He explained that the content of this industry-academia alliance cooperation includes six aspects: consulting, technical exchanges and industry-academia projects, on-the-job training, off-campus internships and student scholarships, preferential employment of outstanding graduates, and feedback donations. In the past, Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. and Feng Chia University have had a deep connection, and they look forward to deepening this connection through this industry-academia alliance cooperation and the establishment of the laboratory and donation of equipment, jointly cultivating the talents and technology development needed for the next generation of the industry.

After the signing, both parties went to the 4th floor of the Engineering Building to unveil the Advanced Energy and Thermal Management Laboratory and visit the laboratory's achievements. During the visit, Professor Yen-Hsin Chan from the Department of Mechanical and Computer-Aided Engineering explained that the laboratory is mainly dedicated to the research of advanced energy and high-temperature system thermal management. Through the integration of virtual and real methods, the laboratory conducts numerical simulations and experimental measurements of the internal thermal and flow fields of high-temperature systems. The goal is to conduct performance and efficiency analysis of energy and high-temperature systems through multi-scale analysis models, assisting the industry in optimizing system energy management and internal thermal uniformity. Finally, General Manager You-Wen Liang expressed that Gallant Precision Machining Co., Ltd. highly agrees with the cooperation model between the laboratory and the industry and looks forward to continuously deepening the joint growth and cultivation of Taiwan's semiconductor equipment talents in the future.

The "Advanced Energy and Thermal Management Laboratory" was unveiled on the day of the signing, and the attending teachers visited the laboratory's achievements after the unveiling.
